MISSION STATEMENT
"Fiesta en el Sol" Ethical Adventure Travel , Extreme Sports and Film Fest . Nov 14 -Dec 4th, 2014 .

To host a second annual , three days of adventure sports demonstrations and an adventure trade show, the first ever such multisport festival in Cuba. The event will be complimented by three nights of international and Cuban adventure films. With the venue's regular local evening music and culture presentations before and after the film festival. The goal is to unite several fringe adventure sports under one common festival to facilitate networking between the participants and promote the new wave of adventure tourism in Cuba. We also hope to bring back to life or revitalize the entire “ Playas Del Este “ region, so near Havana, with a new adventurous spirit for individual sports and their genre of films.Then, the festival goes on the road to Vinales , where we have film screenings arranged until early December when the Latin American Film Festival starts in Havana.

WHERE

We have three locations for hosting our adventure film and sport festival ;

1 NOV 14- Nov 17th Situated 30 minutes east of Havana's historical centre. This spacious 188 room hotel sits directly across the street from the beautiful “ playa del este “ beach. Many sporting activities are available close to the hotel.
There are 2 restaurants and 4 bars. The Tropicoco is the perfect venue, having a large open room with stage, movie screen,and full audio visual facilities. It's spacious reception areas also provide ample room for trade show tables and booths throughout the hotel.2VINALES

Vinales is the sporting and nature capital as far as adventure goes in Cuba. It is a UNESCO heritage site, a National Park . After the initial screenings and festival at hotel Tropicoco we take the films and activities on the road to Vinales.

II ADVENTURE SPORTS FILM FESTIVAL

Three nights of films already subtitled in Spanish will be presented by www.Inkafest.com Mountain, adventure and environment films from Peru, Latin America and abroad. Other films from similar festivals including Canada and Poland will compliment the film line up. A competition will be announced for various categories of films entered such as best film in water sports, air sports, biking sports, climbing, and environmental awareness.
As well as a call for entries to find the best of Cuban adventure film.
An outdoor venue outside the hotel TROPICOCO would also be an excellent option. This way regular Cubans from Havana such as schools and Universities could attend the event outside, while TROPICOCO all inclusive guests would have their own screenings inside. We have found an existing outdoor Theater that could be refurbished and used if power is available or a screen set up near the hotel itself.

III ADVENTURE TRAVEL / EXTREME SPORTS TRADE SHOW

3 days of networking at an adventure trade show. Travel companies and adventure outfitters from Cuba and abroad will have the opportunity to set up tables and booths throughout the lobby and various areas of the roomy Tropicoco Hotel . Travel agencies and outdoor outfitters are welcome . The trade show is free to everyone booked in as part of an all inclusive stay at the Tropicoco Hotel.

IV GEAR POOL DONATION bring old bikes, outdoor gear for donations to Cubans.


THE FESTIVAL IS FREE TO ATTEND:

The film festival, trade show and access to all sporting activities is free to all those booking in to the hotel Tropicoco during the event. A special airfare and accomodation price will be available to festival participants according to amount of rooms and plane seats booked by event patrons. The films are free although donations are welcome. Donations taken will again be given out to various Cuban sporting clubs and associations to improve the quality of adventure sport and tourism in Cuba. A second outdoor venue is also possible outside for general public.

THE ORGANIZERS , MARKETING AND PROMOTIONS

The organizers have spent the last two years doing several trips to Cuba, setting up the event , accomodation, meal bargains both at The Hotel Tropicoco and Vinales , acting as “ Fixers “ and putting all Cuban local assistance in place. In addition we have an alliance with PURO FILMS , www.purofilms.com a Canadian/Cuban production company with offices in Havana and Vancouver whose goal is to facilitate film and video production for productions wishing to shoot in Cuba. The organizers speak fluent Spanish, English, French and Polish and will assist you with any translation needs.

WHY CUBA IN NOVEMBER

November is one of the worst weather months for rain , sleet and snow in Canada and Europe.
Cuba is already a very popular sun destination to Canadians especially with one million Canadian visitors a year visiting the island. With the addition of a three day film and sports festival to a beautiful beach setting in late November we hope to fill the Hotel Tropicoco and share these sports and films with the local population and active visitors.

The Havana's “International Festival of New Latin Cinema” gets underway three days later and is available for cross promotional opportunities with the “Fiesta in the Sun and Adventure Film Festival.”

The sports chosen are already well organized with their own associations and clubs having held their own events in Cuba already. Each participating sporting club or association will be promoting the event through its own members, websites and press contacts.

The Hotel Tropicoco is already one of the best bargains in Cuba. The venue's existing clientele already matches perfectly this sort of event – a sporty adventure travel oriented group.

The organizers have consulted with and judged at various festivals in Canada, Peru and Eastern Europe. As filmmakers attending the mountain adventure circuit, many similar events to the one proposed at The Tropicoco have been witnessed. These events are all long running, sustainable, and very successful.

Vinales, two and half hours south east of Havana, the third stop for the event, is a UNESCO Heritage site , a Cuban National Park and an outdoor lovers paradise making it also an ideal location for filming and photographing Cuban sports, nature and landscape.
