THE SERIES ON SKIING, SNOWBOARDING & TELEMARKING

The WHITEOUT Series produced by ZINC FILMS 8X24 MIN., 16MM/BETASP, colour, stereo WHITEOUT is an open invitation to discover the thrill of Skiing, Snowboarding and Telemarking.

If you want backcountry adventure and great action, the Extreme Zinc crew has produced another outstanding series. WHITEOUT entertains with stories featuring deep powder runs, remote locations, action and adventure. Powder skiing, snowboarding and telemarking are the three methods of descent in this series. While entertainment drives this series, information on the skills and techniques needed to accomplish many of these feats is interwoven to provide instructional elements on all three disciplines. All this takes place on some of the most magnificent mountain locations around the world; Alaska, Sweden, Montana, Switzerland, Oregon, Italy, the Yukon, France and beautiful British Columbia.

Each program has a theme that takes the viewer on different adventures and demonstrates the skills and techniques need to ski, telemark and snowboard in a variety of alpine terrain.

Prominent personalities in the industry are featured; skiers such as Doug Coombs "the best skier in the world" Outside Magazine and instructional powder skiing segments taught by the Powder 8 masters in Whistler/Blackcomb. Snowboard instructors Jennifer Ross and Christian Hrab show us "how to" from the groomed runs of Whistler/Blackcomb to the extreme backcountry runs off piste. Other snowboarders featured include Shawn Farmer, John Griber, Stuart Osborne, Jay Liska, Greta Gains, Richie Fowler, Steven Koch and Fritz Hartman.

The telemarking segments feature the Canadian & Norwegian team members competing in Europe, an expedition to the Yukon with Pat Morrow and wild backcountry skiing on the coastal range.

The instructional segments include pointers on everything from taking air to shredding the steeps. State of the art 3D animation is used to clarify and demonstrate many of the techniques. It doesn't matter what level you are or would like to be, the programs are exciting to watch.

Shot in the world's most magnificent mountain locations, WHITEOUT will be a feast for the viewer. It will feature unique majestic surroundings, expert talent, unending & untracked powder, all types of terrain, current techniques, adventure and action.

The WHITEOUT series will entertain, instruct and motivate its viewers.

THE WHITEOUT SERIES produced by adventure film-makers Harvey Zlatarits and Peter Chrzanowski through their company Zinc/Extreme have again given us action and adventure. This time we are also coached and instructed by some of the world's most qualified professionals in the ski, snowboard and telemark industry. THE WHITEOUT SERIES is an entertaining action packed instructional series guaranteed to get you going. Filmed in mountain locations around the world, this series is a visual feast for the viewer that features majestic mountains, expert talent, unending & untracked powder, steep and deep terrain, current techniques, adventure and action.

THE WHITEOUT SERIES PROGRAM OUTLINE

  • Program One: BACK TO BASICS

    Program one in the Whiteout Series jump starts with powder skiing after a three meter powder blizzard in the treed chutes of Whistler. Viewers are introduced to the basics of powder skiing, snowboarding and telemarking. We examine the basic body stance, straight running, the traverse and side slip. Cat snowboarding at Island Lake Lodge and telemarking with Leslie Clement, Canada's #1 racer provide the action and adventure.

  • Program Two: THE TURN

    Program two in the Whiteout Series deals with the most important skill to learn in skiing, snowboarding and telemarking...the turn. Turning controls speed and direction allowing you to go where you want as fast as you want. The basic turn is introduced after skiing with the world's best at Mike Wiegle's Powder 8s contest. We then trek to Flute Mountain, about an hours hike backcountry from Whistler's peak, to find untracked powder, perfect weather and great terrain to practice our turns.

  • Program Three: THE BACKCOUNTRY

    Program three in the Whiteout Series takes us backcountry from the Spearhead Glacier behind Blackcomb to the Yukon Territories. Doug Coombs, "the best skier in the world"...Outside Magazine, takes us on a camping trip and shares tips on backcountry and extreme skiing. Pat and Baiba Morrow travel to the Yukon on an expedition to Mt. Logan and a group of backcountry lovers discover snowmobiling is another way to reach the powder bowls of B.C.

  • Program Four: POWDER

    Why is untracked powder the ultimate descent experience? Program four in the Whiteout Series captures the sensation of soaring, gliding and floating; descent through is described as a dream-like phenomenon that evokes a euphoric feeling. Skiing at Island Lake Lodge, snowboarding in Alaska and telemarking in the European Alps prove the lure of powder is universal.

  • Program Five: EXTREME

    Program five in the Whiteout Series deals with extreme descents. As one skier put it, "extreme is a state of mind, the individual has to decide what is their extreme." Personnel techniques and challenges are portrayed while skiing the Chugach Mountains in Alaska, snowboarding Tantalus in B.C. and telemarking with Fred LaMott a member of Canada's National Team.

  • Program Six: EXTREME II

    It's air time in program six of the Whiteout Series. North America's air specialists take us on this flight. Trevor Petersen skiis Blackcomb mixing powder and the steeps with air time, Jay Liska and Shawn Farmer ride in the Alaskan Extremes, we descend on Fernie B.C. for a tour and Kevin Dyck take the biggest jump of all... sky surfing the clouds.

  • Program Seven: A FLASH BACK

    Program seven in the Whiteout Series takes a look back to the roots of snowboarding, the traditions of telemarking and the skiing McConkey family of Whistler B.C. Surfing, skateboarding and Tom Sims, one of the original inventors of the snowboard, describe the evolution of snowboarding. Jim McConkey and son Shane, ski and chat about skiing today and how it was 30 years ago. For over 150 years, telemarking has evolved as the premiere sport of Norway. We look back as they celebrate their heritage in traditional style at the World Championships in Italy.

  • Program Eight: THE PROFESSIONALS

    Program seven in the Whiteout Series looks at the professional racer and some of their techniques. We talk to World Cup ski racers and find out they secretly would rather be skiing powder. We look at snowboard racing with Christian Hrab who analyzes techniques using computer animation and travel with the Canadian National Telemark Team to the World Championships in Italy, Sweden, Switzerland and France.
