Imagine 20 of the world's best snowboarders delivered to three rugged peaks in the surreal Chugach Mountain range in Alaska. Two of the peaks in this little known terrain had never before been challenged. The stage was set for this thrilling and dangerous event as competitors, judges and high alpine safety crews converged on the area by helicopters and glacier landing aircraft.

The runs averaged vertical drops of more than 2000 ft (700 meters) in a region that receives over 500 inches of snow annually. The heavy snowfall together with faces nearing 60 degrees in steepness created the most spectacular setting imaginable for this inaugural event.

Mountain smarts and a keen sense of survival were essential. "I went down this hairball run, hoping I would find my route down between the rockbands and sluff avalanches. It was the wildest," says Lake Tahoe local Shawn Farmer.

The WORLD EXTREME SNOWBOARDING COMPETITION was a truly unique adventure held in one of the most pristine and magnificent environments known to man...Alaska's Chugach Mountains, and ZINC/EXTREME EXPLORATIONS was there to capture it on film.
