PEMBERTON MUSIC FESTIVAL / AIRHEADS / FLYING CINDERELLAS AND MORE

Pemby fest from hillside

Just wanted to blog in and update everyone on my itinerary this summer. We have been religiously flying in Pemberton as much as we can, considering the winds have been a little awkward this summer . It seems the east and south prevailing winds have certainly grounded us on a few occasions. Then , of course , came the Pemberton Music Festival, a pretty amazing show featuring bands like Nine Inch Nails, Cold Play, JZ, Tragically Hip, Tom Petty and many more. It was pretty unreal to suddenly have 40,000 people camped out in our little valley.

We also did a few remarkable paragliding trips to a sparsely used site in the Birken Valley. Mt Birkenhead is over 6000 ft high and has great microwave road access. I flew there twice, once with Denis and another with Igor , ironically both were Russian Pilots. I flew to Darcy on my second flight over Anderson Lake. Denis flew over 80 km , past Lilloet and part way to Lytton, an amazing XC achievement. The Birken Valley can also be rather crazy to fly sometimes as well. On our second flight there , when Igor and I launched, he got swept down valley over Anderson Lake and had to land backwards between the powerlines and spots in the crude logging slashes. Somehow , he managed.

And now, for something entirely different. I have been invited to be on the international jury and presenting a slide/video show in Poprad Slovakia, www.mfhf.sk October 8th-12th. I'm earlier at a fest in Teplice, in Czech Republic at a mountain film festival there www.teplicenadmetuji.cz on August 28th-31. Then I am also in Poland at Ladek Zdroj www.przeglad.ladek.pl Sept 25-28th. Then I am off to St Hilaire for the Coupe Icare on Sept 18 and 19th and finally culminate the trip at Ptor Spricenieks wedding on Sept 20th at La Grave , France nearby.

Since I am off to Europe I can not be idle in between the festivals , soooo I dreamed up another film which II will be shooting there, see below synopsis:

LOOKING FOR MY FLYING CINDERELLA: SAMPLE ONE PAGE SYNOPSIS Colour, HI DEF, Versions: 100 minutes, 53 min, and 43 min.

Extreme Filmmaker Peter “ Peru “ Chrzanowski , begins an unusual quest. He has been making outdoor adventure films for over thirty years. When he began his career, he knew that his vagabonding lifestyle and lack of security would probably prevent him from ever leading a “ normal pedestrian lifestyle “ , nevertheless having a family or kids. He concedes that even the most forgiving of female partners would probably not last too long with him in a relationship.

Now Chrzanowski , who began a career in extreme skiing is now obsessed with paragliding. He is presently 50 years old, and actually thinking of settling down more. He and his mother are building a house together in beautiful Pemberton, British Columbia. The house is a fifteen minute drive from a site having some of the best paragliding in the world. “It’s my nest “ says Peter . “ Now all I have to do is find a partner that
flies “.

And so now, here at his almost completed home, the story begins. Peter is introduced, with a bit of his colourful adventure filmmaking history and a few already botched up romantic attempts with women that either fly , or are learning how to. Now, he sets out in earnest to find his “ Flying Cinderella “ . Since he has already been filming several other paragliding projects, he has a great excuse to find and film women that fly.

Chrzanowski’s itinerary will take him through three mountain film festivals in his native Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia where he has been invited to participate as part of the “ international jury “ and give a slide presentation. He will seek out adventurous paragliding women at these events, as well as various flying locations nearby. Then, his trip will continue through the Alps of France and various paragliding sites. Then, by September 18th , he hopes to attend the “ Coupe Icare “ or the largest free flight and paragliding festival in the world held at St Hilaire France. By September 20th he will also attend a best friends’ wedding in La Grave France, perhaps a perfect climax to his trip as the guest list will also be comprised of rather “extreme “ individuals. Then, it’s back to Poland, one more festival in Slovakia and back to Vancouver, Canada by October 15th .

Well folks , here you have it. I thought I would enter the world of Romantic Comedies, or perhaps tragedies, so we will anticipate seeing the result of this filming expedition. While in Poland and Slovakia, I also hope to keep promoting our house in Pemberton which I hope to name “ ELBOW TREE LODGE 2 , in honor of the original Elbow Lodge 1 which was a Squatters Cabin Bart Ross and Nigel Protter built in Whistler back in the seventies. Aaaaah those were the days when a joint got you a free ride up on the Whistler Gondola and there were at least 30 illicit houses built in the woods.

Anyway folks, that’s it for now , and stay tuned here for more…NOTE : Pemby fest photos JOHN HAYTO , BIRKENHEAD photos by Simon Bedford.
